Fall Festival: seafood, music, more!

Ever wonder why fishermen, chefs and shuckers get together in the fall to prepare mouth-watering dishes for us all? Because it’s fun! Hard work, lot’s of prep, yes: but the result is a walloping two-day festival, all over our historic waterfront wharf.

New this year is a scavenger hunt: organized by the RI Oyster Trail. Join the RIOT and enjoy RI oysters year round, all over the Ocean State. Participation is free, and it will help guide you through various exhibitors while you gain awareness of aquaculture, The Nature Conservancy’s shell recycling program, oyster artists, perfect wine pairings and more.

Through hard work (read: wine tastings) we learned that fresh, local seafood pairs well with Santa Margherita white wines. Also, many of you have been loving the Bully Boy Blood Mary’s, and then the cool, classic glass of Stella as friendly accompaniments for a lobster roll, or chowder. Be sure to enjoy the last of a fave summer mudslide and meet the Coole Swan girls who rep their fantastic Irish liqueur at the waterfront bar. Also at Bowen’s Wharf Marina will be SSV Oliver Hazard Perry. Visit this 200-foot tall ship before she heads north.

Gluten-free options will be in the VW van from Lola’s Blue Farm; cider and specialty donuts at SweetB’s Donuts; Smoked Brisket (yup, non-seafood) from Binge BBQ; Face-painting…we could go on. Just come!

Join us – rain or shine – 11-6 on Saturday, and 11-5 on Sunday. Free admission. Bring the fam, or just yourself. Let’s make the most of this glorious fall weather and be mindful of our oceanfront: composting stations are all over the wharf, so help us keep the site and the waterfront free of waste. See you this weekend!
