Upstairs, Downstairs and New Views at Diego’s

“We always dreamt about a separate bar room, a new space, for private parties  and now we have it!” The newly renovated upstairs of Diego’s can accommodate 60 people

Having outgrown their ground-floor patio restaurant, Scott & Adrienne Kirmil, decided it was time to exp and and improve. When Roger King Fine Art gallery downsized and decided to move off-wharf the Kirmil’s jumped into meetings with Bart Dunbar, president of Bowen’s Wharf. Together they embarked on opening the space to water views, improved & exp anded the indoor seating, not to mention modernized the climate control.

There’s even a cozy fireplace where guests can watch the winter snow storms from upstairs…. and the creative details will entertain you even on a cloudy day.

“We also exp anded our restroom facilities, to include h andicap accessible for some of our favorite regulars.”

Their menu boats specialty summer cocktails, Mezcal & new craft beers, roasted peach gazpacho, local fish dishes and of course lot’s of old favorites too. Diego‘s brunch is seven days a week July and August.

Together with Leigh Kirmil, Scott’s sister who is the General Manager, they added more than 12 staff  so they can keep the year-round local staff who wanted to stay and work.

You can also find a Diego’s taco station at Newport Film events, and although a separate company, the Diego’s Bodega & Catering that opened in Middletown about a year ago is part of the Diego’s family. They specialize in off-site parties and events, catering, taco bars, rehearsal dinners, weddings, and catering.

The couple also owns The Wharf Pub Newport. A recent expansion now includes a full liquor license and the most extensive whisky menu on the isl and, with a focus on live music Friday’s and Saturday’s. Dine out this summer… and bring Fido for some fun on the patio, while you park your bike, car or boat just steps away.
