Holiday Happenings in Newport
It’s Christmas time in Newport, the most magical time of the year here on the waterfront! We may complain about the cold weather, but no one can resist how beautiful our coastal scenery is in combination with the lights, trees, wreaths, and (maybe!) a light layer of snow. Meeting at Bowen’s Wharf Marina, this boat cruises the harbor for one hour in search of the favorite hang-outs of the local seals. Every Saturday and Sunday! Check their page because times will vary, or call us for pricing and tickets, 401-849-3478.A Rough Point HolidayFrom 10-4 every Saturday in December, enjoy a self-guided tour of Doris Duke’s Newport home, decorated for the season. Tickets are $10 at our Pilot House.Audrain Automobile Museum (Newport) and Newport Car Museum (Portsmouth)Depending on which end of the isl and you find yourself, both of our local car museums probably won’t be too far. Audrain is on Bellevue in Newport, and Newport Car Museum is on West Main Road in Portsmouth. At Audrain you can see Santa on the 9th of this month, and on the 20th they are having an Ugly Sweater Soirée. At Newport Car Museum you can enjoy gift shop sales throughout the holidays, movie nights and a “Hoods up” weekend on Dec. 15th and 16th.Additional events:Glen Manor Christmas open house Dec. 9 2-4pm so if you’re coming from the north, stop in Portsmouth and enjoy.Holiday Lantern Walking Tour Dec. 7th, 8th, 15th, 16th, 21, 22,28, 29th 4pm through Newport History Tours, and tickets at our Pilot House.Holiday Open House at Redwood Library & Athenaeum Dec. 8th11-1pm, and this oldest lending library in the US is decorated for the holidays so it’s worth a visit.Movies daily at historic Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center in Washington Square.See you on the waterfront!
