It may seem like summer’s end is right around the corner, but we still have lots planned at Bowen’s Wharf! There’s still time to enjoy Newport’s top summer attractions with us, from fishing trips to the Newport International Boat Show next month. Bowen’s 50th Anniversary
This month, Bowen’s Wharf Company celebrated our 50th anniversary of incorporation on August 12! You could say we have come a long, long way since the late 17th early 18th century. Bowen’s Wharf Company strives to preserve maritime-related activities, historic Wharf buildings, and public access to the waterfront.
We take great pride in how we’ve reestablished Bowen’s Wharf at the center of Newport’s waterfront. By keeping the property in immaculate shape, we make Bowen’s Wharf a sought-out destination by both locals and tourists alike.
A quote from Bart Dunbar, President of Bowen’s Wharf Company:
“When people visit us, whether they’re from Massachusetts, Connecticut or California, when they come to Newport, they want to see a place like this! We work very hard to preserve the marine businesses. Granted, there’s no longer a coal and wood company on site, and we’re not sailing ships all around the world, we do berth multiple tour vessels year-round and we have other marine businesses that have offices across our property.”
You know we love to celebrate, so to share the excitement of 50 years, we had a giveaway on both our Bowen’s Wharf and Bowen’s Wharf Marina social accounts giving away two $50 gift certificates to be used at our Marina or at our beloved shops and restaurants.
To enter, all our followers had to do was share their happiest memory at Bowen’s Wharf with us. Let’s just say, we were overwhelmed by all the heartwarming stories that were shared, and it reminded us how Bowen’s Wharf has been a part of so many people’s lives over the years. Whether you’re born & raised in Rhode Isl and, visit every year, or just happened to stumble upon us, we appreciate each and every single one of you!
We also owe a big thank you to our amazing staff for the energy and passion they continuously put into Bowen’s Wharf. We look forward to another 50+ years apart of the Newport community!

Anchor the Alpaca
Say hello to our new mascot, Anchor the Alpaca! If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll see that Anchor is the newest addition to our team and is helping us take in all the summer fun at Bowen’s Wharf. We found him roaming around Primavera with his brothers and sisters and knew we had to take him in as one of our own!
Anchor is made of actual Alpaca fur, no animal cruelty which we LOVE, he’s hypoallergenic, and of course h andmade! Keep an eye out on our Instagram Stories for Anchor’s Adventures around Bowen’s Wharf. If you miss them live don’t worry, you can always view them on our Anchor Instagram Story Highlight — like his adventure with Isl and Style Parasail!

Newport International Boat Show September 12-15
Are you as excited as we are for the 49th annual Newport International Boat Show?! Bowen’s Wharf is a NIBS Site Host this year, and the new entrance/show office is in Market Square right behind Scrimsh anders, Anchor Toffee and Seamen’s Church Institute.
Join us for a weekend of all things boating and be sure to stop by our locally-owned shops for some great Newport nautical finds. Grab lunch at local favorites like Diego’s and Wharf Southern Kitchen, or end the night with dinner at our world-class steakhouse 22 Bowen’s Wine Bar & Grille or grab a coffee drink at Sprinkles or fruity beverage at Newport Fruit & Smoothie. Attending multiple days at the Show means more delicious options you can choose from! Plus, it’s impossible to fit everything into just ONE day!
Harbor Lights September 20-21
Attention Newport Marina Owners/Managers + Waterfront Venues
Join us in kicking off the start of the fall season along the Newport waterfront by participating in the First Annual Harbor Lights Newport this September 20-21, 2019.
- We are asking all marinas, docks and waterfront venues to decorate in a festive manner with lights and decor. We are hoping for participation throughout the waterfront and we need your help and support to spread the word. Be creative, add a theme, have music at the marina – the options are endless.
Discover Newport will present one gr and prize to the best-decorated marina and waterfront venue! - We want your transient and seasonal boat owners at your marinas to participate as well, so we are asking you to help us by sending out the attached flyer asking boat owners to illuminate and decorate their boats in their slips (this is not a parade). We will also be asking you to pick the three best decorated boats in your marina/waterfront venue and we will award those boats with prizes.
The success of this event is reliant on your participation. The more marinas and venues that catch the spirit and decorate, the stronger this event becomes. Just imagine visitors strolling, shopping and dining along our illuminated waterfront festooned with colorful lights and decor!

For info on healthy Omega Rich diets (including suggestions for local restaurants as well as the MegaRed products) visit their headquarters on site here August 28-September 1 and sign up for free yoga at Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina next door.
